GM Downtime - The Hunter

The man stood, staring at the sky, and cursed. He had been tracking his prey now for weeks. He had nearly had them in the woods near Terrandin, before they had taken Brother Eredrin their captive and gone back to the city. When he had reached the city, it had taken him a day to find them again, and by that time, they had left, teleported away to this gods-forsaken place.

His investigations in the city had only been marginally fruitful. While bribing the guards that watched their wagon while they were away had been easy enough, it had done him little good; the door was locked, and none of his tricks had served to open it. The gossip around town hadn't been of much use either. Half the town thought the men had summoned some sort of zombie dragon, and half seemed to think they had put such a creature out of it's undead misery. Finally, he had had to resort to his contacts within the tower, who identified the place the men had been transported to, and arranged to have him sent to the same place.

From there, he had found a nearly empty orc village. The few that remained there, toothless old matrons, had told him that some of the villagers had followed his prey southeast, toward what they called "the garden," while the majority had gone northward, to join up with some sort of attack force. The man had thanked them, and then followed the road.

And now, here he was, standing in the pit at the end of the road, staring up at the floating island that was rapidly diminishing into the sky. Once again, he had been just too late. He cursed his luck.

Something moved beneath his robe, crawling around his body to the place where the robe opened in the front. He stroked the silvery scales as they passed his hands, and looked down into the set of lenses that made up the face of the metallic thing. He placed his hand so that the legs of the thing could gain purchase, and it crawled up and around his arm.

"Soon enough, my friend." He looked up at the sky again. Based on their direction, and the places they had already been, and what was close... "Soon enough." This time, he would not miss them. This time, he would be waiting for them.
